Sonar, analogous to Radar, uses sound rather than radio waves, in order to "see" underwater objects using echo ranging techniques similar to those of bats and dolphins. NuvoSonic's sonar solutions uniquely fit the target markets and have superior performance.
NuvoSonic has licensed the unique PASERTM technology, in which over $25 Million has already been invested. It represents a technological breakthrough in sonar. The Parametric Array Sonic Echo Ranging (PASERTM) technology allows the generation of laser-like beams of sound at low frequencies without the use of large sonar sources. With this technology, high resolution, high-definition sonar systems can be created which have greatly extended detection ranges as compared to conventional sonar. Extrapolation of actual at-sea test data indicates that NuvoSonic's solution for Harbor Surveillance can detect underwater divers entering restricted areas at ranges of several thousand meters, in contrast to the typical ranges of other systems (100-400 meters). This advantage creates a larger margin of safety for the asset being protected, and a larger margin for error, for determining the threat actually posed by an underwater intruder.
